The TV Woke Me Up

As a homeowner, one of the first things that comes to mind is how do I keep my place safe? When I'm away, who's minding the store? Hopefully you are one of the million who've never been burglarized. Be honest now. Doesn't your heart skip a beat or two when you see those ads on TV about home break ins? Reading the news today, it was stunning how many homes had been ransacked and robbed in just the past week. This calls for drastic measures.

Not wanting to sit in front of the house all night standing guard, led to research to find the best way to protect my home. You have several choices. Monitoring companies who connect to your home via phone line and a central alarm system, intrusion devices and motion detectors in the home to scare the thief away. There are positives and negatives to each of these approaches. After speaking to a law enforcement buddy, the decision was made. Install outdoor security cameras as a deterrent for the bad guys.

The reason for the choice is simple. The average robber can get into and out of your home with the stuff he wants in way less than five minutes. Your alarm company probably can't even react to call you in that time period. The crook knows that most people and neighbors won't even react in the time. There's some risk for the bad guy in the break in to an alarmed home, but not nearly at the level law abiding people think. The officer put it this way. Noise will scare off the rookie bad guy, and that's useful. The biggest concern these guys have is someone identifying them and connecting them to the crime scene. If you can use outdoor security cameras and clearly post that they are in use on your property, you'll make yourself less open to attack.

The most pleasant surprise was how easy it was to put a system into place. There are several wireless outdoor security camera systems that you can use. I've worked up a list of products and the features on my blog. Now when I come home to a relatively darkened house, the fear is much less. You can count me as one of the millions who remain in the "not burglarized" portion of the world. See if the information can help you.
